Peaks, Wildlife & Samburu Adventure

An early morning pickup from Nairobi and a scenic drive north towards Nanyuki, with Mount Kenya as a backdrop, continuing to Ol Pejeta Conservancy — one of Kenya's most important wildlife and conservation areas.

After check-in and lunch, an afternoon game drive made into more than a wildlife search: African elephants, lions, rhinos, buffalo, giraffes, zebras and other plains game, birdlife, and Ol Pejeta's conservation initiatives all feature.

Overnight: Sweetwaters Serena Camp or suitable accommodation around Ol Pejeta.

After an early breakfast, depart Ol Pejeta for Sirimon Gate, where the Mount Kenya trekking adventure begins. After park entry formalities, meet the mountain crew and begin the trek through beautiful montane forest.

The trek: Sirimon Gate (2,650m) to Old Moses Camp (3,300m) — approximately 9 km, 3–4 hours hiking, with a hot lunch at or near the start.

Arrive at Old Moses in the afternoon for tea, coffee or hot chocolate and your first proper mountain environment, before dinner and overnight.

The expedition continues deeper into the mountain, through Likii North Valley and Mackinder's Valley, the landscape growing more open and dramatic with altitude — this is where it starts to feel like a genuine high-altitude expedition.

The trek: Old Moses (3,300m) to Shipton Camp (4,200m) — approximately 14 km, 6–7 hours hiking, with a hot lunch along the way.

The afternoon is for rest and acclimatisation, followed by an evening summit briefing covering the route, weather and conditions, what to expect, pace and group management, and safety.

The summit push: A wake-up at approximately 2:30 AM, a light breakfast, then the ascent from Shipton Camp towards Point Lenana (4,985m) — Mount Kenya's highest trekking summit — timed to reach the top around sunrise.

Time for photographs and celebration at the summit before descending to Shipton Camp for a proper breakfast, then continuing the descent to Old Moses Camp with lunch provided along the way.

Arrive at Old Moses in the afternoon to relax after the summit.

After breakfast, the final section of the trek: Old Moses to Sirimon Gate, roughly 9 km and 2–3 hours. At the gate, meet the vehicle and begin a completely different chapter of the adventure — from cool mountain forest to the drier, rugged scenery of northern Kenya.

Arrive in the Samburu region in the afternoon and check into the lodge, with time to relax or take a short introductory activity depending on arrival time. Dinner and overnight.

An early morning game drive explores Samburu while wildlife is most active. Its dry-country ecosystem holds species tied specifically to northern Kenya: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo and varied birdlife.

The day goes beyond a simple vehicle safari where possible, with a guided nature or birding experience (see the options below), and later in the day a chance to learn about the Samburu people — their traditions, pastoral lifestyle and relationship with the land.

Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

If the departure schedule allows, a final short morning game drive or nature activity, then breakfast at the lodge and check-out.

The drive back towards Nairobi offers one last look at Kenya's changing landscapes, arriving in Nairobi later in the afternoon or evening.
